Fees and Funding
Fees
As a Community Interest Preschool we aim to keep our fees as low as possible and any profit raised is fed back into the Preschool for equipment and resources. We also believe that it is important for clarity of charges, and as such Hopscotch never charge you top up fees, or additional extras. You can pay for additional sessions over and above any funding that you may receive. Our rates (From April 2025) are : Day session 8am-6pm : £80.00 AM session 9am-1pm : £36.00 PM session 1pm-4pm : £27.00 Preschool day* 9am-4pm : £56.00 *Preschool day add-on options : Breakfast club 8am-9am : £9.00 (breakfast included) Additional hour 4pm-5pm : £9.00 Additional hour 5pm-6pm : £9.00 (tea included) Short notice adhoc bookings : £10.00 per hour *Note – Hopscotch is closed bank holidays and for 2 weeks over the Christmas period. See our Term Dates page for more information. Invoices are sent by email around the 18th of the month prior and are to be paid by the 1st of every month. Invoices will cover full weeks in that month, so one month you may see 4 weeks of charges, other months you may see 5 weeks of charges. Having trouble understanding your invoice? See our Invoices Explained page for more details. |
Funding
We accept all current government funding (2 year old funding, 15 hours and 30 hours for 3 and 4 year olds). 2 and 3 year old funding can only be used between 9am and 4pm.
We will also be accepting (starting September 2024) the new 15 hours government funding for 9 month to 2 year olds. This funding can be used across the whole nursery day (8am to 6pm).
See our Are you eligible for funding? page to see what you can apply for.
If you are in receipt of funding then you'll only receive an invoice if you attend additional hours which will be charged at the rate set out in our Fees section. See our Invoices Explained page for examples of what this could look like.
The government allows funding to be either Term Time only (following the school terms) or can be stretched to also spread across the holidays for that term. This does mean that you will receive less funding per week over a longer period than those doing Term Time only, however, you will still receive the same amount of funding overall. There is also the ability to stretch annually rather than term time. See below for some examples of how stretching would look.

Stretching your funded hours
The example below is for a child who is entitled to 30 hours government funding. The same principle applies to 15 hours funding.
Total hours paid for by the government : 1140 hours in 1 academic year.
This is calculated by 38 weeks in the school terms per year at 30 hours per week. 38 x 30 = 1140 hours.

Scenario 1 : Not stretching your hours (i.e. Term Time Only) (if you are entitled to 30 hours government funding).
The preschool will be open to you during Term Times only. You will need to provide your own child care during half term holidays, and end of term holidays (Christmas, Easter, Summer). Each week you attend you can spend up to 30 hours. 4 Preschool day sessions (9am - 4pm) = 4 x 7 hours = 28 funded hours would be within your entitlement with nothing additional to pay. Scenario 2 : Stretching your hours (if you are entitled to 30 hours government funding). The preschool will be open to you all year round (except when the preschool is closed - bank holidays and Christmas close). Each school term and holidays in that term have a different number of weeks, therefore the funding hours available to you has to be calculated for each term. Spring Term 2022 Funding example : In 2022, the Spring term was 13 weeks (Mon 3rd Jan - Fri 18th Feb and Mon 28th Feb - Fri 8th Apr), so there were 13 weeks x 30 hours = 390 hours available to spend. There were 3 weeks of holidays in the Spring term. 1 week half term holiday from Mon 21st Feb - Fri 25th Feb, and 2 weeks of the Easter Holidays from Mon 11th Apr - Fri 22nd Apr before the Summer term started. Therefore your 390 hours would have been spread across the 13 weeks term time and 3 weeks holiday = 16 weeks in total. 390 hours spread across 16 weeks is 390 hours / 16 weeks = 24.375 hours per week maximum funding is available. In reality this means you had up to 24 whole hours funding per week across that period. 3 Preschool day sessions (9am - 4pm) = 3 x 7 hours = 21 funded hours would be within your entitlement with nothing additional to pay. Summer Term 2022 Funding example : In 2022, the Summer term was 12 weeks (Mon 25th Apr - Fri 27th May and Mon 6th June - Wed 20th July), so there were 12 weeks x 30 hours = 360 hours available to spend. There were 7 weeks of holidays in the Summer term. 1 week half term holiday from Mon 30th May - Fri 3rd June, and 6 weeks of the Summer holidays from Mon 25th July - Fri 2nd Sept before the Autumn term started. Therefore your 360 hours would need to have been spread across the 12 weeks term time and 7 weeks holiday = 19 weeks in total. 360 hours spread across 19 weeks is 360 hours / 19 weeks = 18.9 hours per week maximum funding available. In reality this means you had up to 18 whole hours funding per week across that period. 2 Preschool day sessions (9am - 4pm) = 2 x 7 hours = 14 funded hours would be within your entitlement with nothing additional to pay. |
